flame retardants save lives

Statistics show that in developed countries, fire annually claims 10 to 20 lives out of every million people. Great Lakes proudly offers additives that make our lives safer by reducing the risk of fire in products used every day. In fact, flame retardants keep many devastating fires from happening at all.

Making It Safe

Like you, Great Lakes wants a safer world for our families. We are an industry leader in environmental product stewardship activities; making sure our products are handled and disposed of properly is standard practice at Great Lakes . We believe this kind of environmental responsibility and integrity are important to our business as well as to current and future generations.

Going The Extra Mile

Because Great Lakes is so committed to environmental product stewardship, we are ceasing production of commonly used Penta-BDE products by year end 2004. Many customers have already been converted to Firemaster® 550 flame retardant, our replacement product.

Making It Easy

Choosing a flame retardant additive can be a complicated task. Higher safety and environmental standards must be balanced with process requirements and sensible economics. But Great Lakes makes it easy. As the world's leading additive producer, we offer a broad product line that includes bromine-based, phosphorus-based , and antimony-based flame retardant additives, as well as other synergists, smoke suppressants, and Fyrebloc® blends. We provide excellent technical assistance by discussing your application needs and recommending the most appropriate product, in some cases even providing physical forms of product. Manufacturers around the world successfully incorporate Great Lakes flame retardants in their processes with ease and success. We make sure of it.
